82nd Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino

Florence, the birthplace of opera and the pianoforte, presents the oldest opera festival in Italy, the Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. From May 2 to June 26, don’t miss this program packed full of events, including performances of several Renaissance ‘intermedi,’ dance and drama productions considered the precursor to opera, composed by Pellegrina for the marriage of Grand Duke Ferdinand I and Cristina of Lorena at the end of the 16th century. These will be performed in the Buontalenti Grotto in the Boboli Gardens on June 22, 25 and 27. But this year’s main event is The Marriage of Figaro at the Maggio Fiorentino Theatre, featuring a new set design by Sonia Bergamasco and a reading from one of Mozart’s opera on June 15 to 21.
